We’re one week out from Thanksgiving and I’ve finally realized how truly different the holiday season will be this year. I’ll be missing extended family, Christmas parties, and the Magic of Christmas (if you live near Portland and have never been – you’re missing out).
But the one constant we can always depend on? Food.
I’m not here to tell you that consuming massive amounts of expensive cheese as a coping mechanism is a bad thing – it’s not about how you get through the pandemic, it’s just about getting through it. If cheese is how you get through quarantine, more power to you – and cheese! The holidays are renown for being the time of year we put on a few extra pounds for warmth and when you throw in the emotional trauma of living in a global pandemic since March, you’re looking at stretchy waistbands only for Zoom meetings to start off the new year.
In the spirit of wanting to stay fit during December and looking for a new way to workout that doesn’t require going to a gym (especially as COVID restrictions are reappearing) or logging 487 miles, I’ve partnered with Training with Trent to create athlete state of mind’s second monthly fitness challenge. We present to you, the December Holiday Hustle: An Advent Calendar of Exercise! We know most of you are heading home for the holidays, so we’ve created workouts that require zero equipment, take about 30 minutes, and are meant for all skill/fitness levels so you can include the whole family!
Just like regular advent calendars, there will be new workouts released everyday of December via social media (follow along on the new athlete state of mind Instagram!) as we count down to the New Year. We’re hitting all parts of the body to give you the most basic, well-rounded, at-home workouts we can!
Trent Rosenberg, owner of Training With Trent and my awesome cousin, is the brains behind this month’s workouts and if you like what he’s thrown together after the challenge ends, he’s offering free consultations for virtual workouts plans to help you kickstart your at-home fitness goals for those fickle New Year’s Resolutions. If you want to learn more about Trent and what he does, click here!
In the spirit of the holidays and the season of giving, Trent and I are asking for donations of any size as we hope to raise money for Every Kids Sports – a charity that covers the costs of athletics for kids in lower income areas. Playing sports was always something I took for granted and youth sports were the first step towards getting to play in college. Proceeds from the fundraiser will give the gift of sport to kids who deserve the same opportunities we had, no matter their socioeconomic status. Donations can be sent via venmo to Tyler-Spence-7 or check (please email me for mailing information).
We’re super excited to kick-off this challenge on December 1st, so make sure you’re following @_athletestateofmind and @trainingwithtrent on Instagram and as always, subscribe to our newsletter through that annoying little pop-up you probably already closed!
